Director of Photography // Shooting Director
About me.....
I have been a lighting cameraman for the last 35 years. 15 of those were spent with the BBC in the UK documenting everything from land mines in Angola to Polar bears in the Arctic. I now reside in Ireland and most recently worked as the DOP on the highly acclaimed feature doc 'The Man Who Wanted To Fly' with sellout cinema crowds throughout the country as well as filming 14 series of 'Off The Rails' for RTE and over 200 episodes of 'Come Dine with Me' for ITV and countless other programmes. (C.V listed above).
I consider myself very relaxed and easy to communicate with whilst maintaining a constant awareness of the job in hand.
I have won the coveted U.K Royal Television Society Cameraman of the Year award four times and more recently (Aug 2019) picked up a European award for 'Best Aerial Cinematography' which leads me nicely on to explain whilst my feet are firmly on the ground, my other passion since starting out as a cameraman has also been capturing footage from the air. A qualified pilot, I honed my camera skills with my aviation skills which makes for remarkable footage. Fusing my two loves and embracing todays technology allows me to capture previously unthinkable shots from both drones and full size aircraft. It is no longer true to say the sky is the limit.
My Great Grandfather was the first national news photographer in the North of England in the 1920's and ended up working for giants like "Pathé News" and "Life Magazine". My Father then worked for 'The Sun" and "News of The World" as their staff Northern photographer for over forty years so I suppose it's fair to say there is a history of photography at the root of my family tree. I remember taking my father's camera on school trips as a young ten years old and realising at that early age I wanted to spend my life capturing images. Even when I am not working, I am never without a camera!
